Bleach Review: My Last Words

"Now I'm finally going to have the spotlight"
Uryu's true intentions are revealed as he confronts Haschwalth meanwhile Ichigo and the rest try to make it to Yhwach while he is in his weakened state.

With Arrow, Flash and Supergirl not returning to the UK for a while I thought why not review Bleach for a while again and see where it goes. I have still been keeping up to date with Bleach lately and this chapter was just another setup chapter that we have been reading for a while; Askin vs. Yoruichi, Gerard vs. the Soul Reapers and now Uryu vs. Haschwalth, we haven't had any proper fights and the plot hasn't moved forward that much either. We get a few new revelations like Haschwalth destroying the Sun Gate connected to the world of the living because he saw Uryu's betrayal but also the reveal that his seeing powers isn't so perfect after all. Is this because the Almighty ability is not as good when it transfers to Haschwalth? Now as for Uryu's betrayal everyone saw that he was still a good guy for months and months now and Kubo hasn't done anything with this subplot. I mean Uryu hasn't fought or been featured that much throughout this whole arc and his whole plan doesn't sound as elaborate as he thinks because I seriously think there was no need to keep Ichigo and the others in the dark about it. It's a shame this subplot didn't go anywhere because we never even got to see a good fight between Uryu and Ichigo which I think a lot of fans (myself included) was hoping for. However I am looking forward to seeing Uryu vs. Haschwalth and it is helped with some awesome artwork of the two of them facing off against one another.

As for everything else Chad actually got a chance to shine by staying behind to deal with the statues that have come to life which I admit I didn't see coming. And while I like his dialogue and willingness to fight I don't think we'll see much of him now since he is just fighting cannon fodder. That has been the major problem with this arc is that there have been too many characters that have been wasted and have barely done anything. Like the Vizards, Shinji in particular who hasn't fought for long, won a fight and just seems to be defeated by one move all the time now, I don't know what the hell Ginjo and the other Fullbringers are doing and where is Uryu's father been in an arc that has been about Quinces? I think the major problem with this arc is that there have been too many good guys and Kubo has been too afraid to kill them off. For example I really admired Kubo when I thought he killed off a popular character like Toshiro but no he brought him back and he is taking over the Gerard fight when it could have been the Vizards time to shine. If you want to go back even further why couldn't Kubo let BG9 win against Soi Fon? He could have fought another day then against another Soul Reaper, Vizard or even a Fullbringer but no he was killed off along with Cang Du when the two could have done way more. Finally many Sternritter where defeated off screen by Byakuya and then killed by the Auswahlen; these included NaNaNa, Robert, Candice and Meninas, four Sternritter who haven't had a proper fight this whole arc and never will now. Sorry for the rant but it is just something that has really been annoying me throughout this whole arc.

Those statues do have an interesting design
Overall not much happened because it is mainly setup for fights and what is happening next but I am also interested in seeing if Ichigo will make it to Yhwach before he wakes up.

SCORE: 5/10

Highlights: Great shots of Haschwalth and Uryu
Chad getting some of the spotlight

Let - Downs: Uryu's infiltration of the Sternritter wasn't all it could be
Doubt Chad will play a large role in the arc now along with many other characters
Don't really care about Ganju now at this point

Bleach Review: The Theatre Suicide Scene 2

"Bet you weren't expecting this?"
Ichigo runs into Askin but as the two begin to fight they feel the chill of Shunsui's reiatsu as he activates his Bankai.

The chapter we have all been waiting for but before I get into that I want to first talk about the unexpected appearance of Askin and Ichigo. You know Askin continues to be one of my favourite characters just based on his personality alone; the funny reveal that he hasn't even fought Grimmjow and just ran away from him, even admitting that he is the type to run than fight even though he is supposed to be an Elite Sternritter lol. Now I don't think for a second that Grimmjow has been defeated and we won't see him again because he has been hyped up for so long and it would be a waste of his character who has been underused so far. Since Gerard is taking on multiple opponents at once I guess Askin can probably do the same against Ichigo and Grimmjow which would make for an awesome team up. We also get some shots of Chad, Ganju and Orihime but I don't really care at this point because they have just been completely useless this entire arc and I don't know who they can fight since there is not enough Sternritter to go round. However the fight between Askin and Ichigo was cut short went they both felt a very dark and chilling reiatsu coming from Shunsui's Bankai.

Askin continues to be such a great character
This was a great introduction to his Bankai and really mirrors his dark personally quite well; everything from the change of atmosphere to the moves themselves. It kind of remind me of Yamamoto's Banaki which moves was divided into North, West, South, East but Shunsui's is First Dan, Second and Third. The moves are pretty twisted such as the first one where each opponent suffer from the same wounds, the poisoning of Lille and then trapping them both in a cube of water until one of them dies. Plus I was right in thinking that these moves are like a play because off the story Shunsui is saying while Lille feels the effects. It was all very great however I feel like we went through them all really fast and it left me wanting more because the first thing I thought after the chapter despite really liking the Bankai was; "Is this it?". However I am not too worried because I am sure Lille is not down for the count just yet which will force Shunsui to use more moves, maybe something involving that shadow figure?

So Lille does have legs in this form
Overall a really decent Bankai reveal chapter and I liked how we got to see a bit of Askin and Ichigo just like we got to see a bit of Gerard and the other Soul Reapers last chapter.

SCORE: 8/10

Highlights: Shunshui's Bankai
The opening with Askin and Ichigo

Let - Downs: The moments with Shunsui's Bankai felt rushed
The rest of Ichigo's group is still very useless

Bleach Review: The Betrayer

"It's finally my time to shine"
Ichigo and Yoruichi continue to battle Yhwach who still continues to mess with Ichigo's mind and Uryu then decides to step in.

Finally we got some really fast paced action with some proper fighting between the characters. Yhwach still tries to mess with Ichigo by talking about his Quincy blood and has been controlling his actions however I didn't really like it because Aizen and Ginjo already tried a similar trick before. Sure it's different with Yhwach because we have already seen he has some control over Ichgio actions but we have still already been through this before. I did though like the jab Yhwach made at Ichigo's mother which I thought was about time because I have been waiting for Ichigo to mention that Yhwach killed her. We also got to see an Elite Sternritter in action again, Pernida Parkgjas The Compulsory, who takes Yoruichi out of the fight for now in a pretty gruesome way. Finally we get the arrival of Uryu (about freaking time!) who still seems to be siding with Yhwach for now and it looks like there might be a fight between him and Ichigo next chapter. All in all there isn't much to say about this chapter because it doesn't feel like a lot has happened, I am of course still disappointed that Chad and Ganju just seem to be standing around doing nothing and the way Mimihagi was ripped off makes me think that it's part is already over after there was so much hype about it.

Doesn't that hurt her at all?
Overall a good chapter that might have set up a fight between Uryu and Ichigo next chapter and with Uryu's and Pernida's arrival this will mean the other Elite Sternritter will fight as well.

SCORE: 7/10

Highlights: Ichigio vs. Yhwach
Uryu and Pernida finally step in
                   Pernida's brutal attack on Yoruichi

Let - Downs: Really, Ichigo has been controlled by another main villain
Why isn't the rest of Ichigo's group helping out?
                       Mimihagi finished already?

Bleach Review: The Dark Arm

"I was just one day from retirement"
Shunsui has now completely freed Aizen who tires to convince him to use his powers for the Soul Society meanwhile in the Royal Palace Yhwach tries to stop Mimihagi but Ichigo steps in.

If your wondering why I didn't review last chapter that is because I was really busy but I was incredibly disappointed in it anyway. I would have given it 10/10 for the reveal of Aizen alone but the majority of the chapter had to waste a lot of time with Urahara and the rest. As for this chapter it was a lot better because we got to see more of Aizen and Shunsui while we didn't waste several pages on Urahara's group doing absolutely nothing to advance the story (besides Ukitake) like they have been for a while. I really enjoyed the banter between Aizen and Shunsui because despite being in prison Aizen is still being his usual self, like not asking to be released and acting like he could care less if he is. It seems at the end that he will go because it is implied that he hates Yhwach even more than the Soul Reapers, which would also explain why he turned down the offer to work with him before. Two things that was really interesting was that the suit Aizen his in only contains his powers not remove them which is great because if he does fight in the future he will be at full power right away. Secondly because the fingers of that guard literally disintegrated when he got close to Aizen I'm guessing that Aizen his still a transcendent being thanks to the Hogyoku that is still in him; remember it only started to reject him at the end it didn't leave him. As for the rest of the chapter Ichigo and Yhwach have a pretty cool confrontation but it wasted time with Ichigo going on about how he protects peoples (like he always does) and Yhwach still talking about Ichigo's Quincy blood but only vaguely but hopefully we will get a proper fight next chapter.

This was really cool
This review may have seemed short but that is because I don't find much to talk about them; I mean Yhwach stabbed the Soul King quite a while ago and yet the story hasn't really progressed much at all. Plus why aren't the rest of Ichigo's group doing anything and where the hell are the Elite Sternritters?

SCORE: 7/10

Highlights: Long Live Lord Aizen!!!!!!
The stuff that happens with Aizen and Shunsui
                   Ichigo stopping Yhwach

Let - Downs: Ichigo and Yhwach waste time talk on stuff we already know
Where are the rest of Ichigo and Yhwach forces?

Bleach Review: All is lost

The King is dead
The chapter begins with Yuzu and Karin feeling earthquakes in the world of the living which is caused by the death of the Soul King. Yhwach explains his powers let him see the future and that his Reiatsu allowed him to control Ichigo. Ichigo and Yoruichi attack Yhwach while Orihime attempts to heal the Soul King but they fail meanwhile Urahara is shocked that the Soul King is dead but Ukitake has a strange look on his face.

Still wish these chapters where better but this one was more entertaining than the last few and that is because Kubo did do a good job of showing us that "all is lost": the worlds crumbling, the Soul King is dead and Urahara has completely lost his cool. First off while it is good to see Yuzu and Karin again bur I do wish they did something more interesting and that they where more relevant to the plot than just a quick cameo. Karin was teased with having such a big role, especially in the Fullbringer Arc, but it seems that Kubo forgot about her and the best he can come up with is her playing video games during a quake.

"Your anger makes you stronger Ichigo!"
I do really like that Yhwach has literally won over all of the heroes (when Aizen failed) and it looks like there isn't much they can do however I want to know more about his plans. I doubt he wants to be destroyed along with the worlds but maybe he wants to revert it to how it was before the Soul King. We also got some much needed background on the Soul King and that he was created by the Soul Society to control the flow of souls. This does explain why he seems more like an object than a person but I just hope we get even more in info on exactly who or what he is. I liked the short conflict between Ichigo and Yhwach however why did Yoruichi have to use wire? Does she really think that will hold him? Finally it looks like Ukitake's Kamikake is finally going to be put into effect with his expression at the end of the chapter and I think this technique might allow him to take the place of the Soul King or share his body with him for a while. The latter might explain why the Soul King is losing more and more limbs every chapter because it could already active; notice the Soul King has no ears when I'm sure he had some earlier.

"Wires! My one weakness!"
Overall a decent chapter but I hope there is more action and fights in the next one.

SCORE: 6/10

Highlights: Earthquakes destroying all the worlds
More information on the Soul King
Urahara losing his cool and Ukitake's plan maybe revealed next chapter?

Let - Downs: Yuzu and Karin just wasted pages
Still doesn't feel like the story isn't moving forward

Bleach Review: KILL THE KING

"You cannot save anyone Ichigo"
The chapter begins with the arrival of the rest of the Visords who help Urahara create the door that will lead to the Soul Palace and they agree to go with him. At the Soul Palace Ichigo says to Yhwach that they will stop him however Yhwach says that with his eyes he has already seen this happen and that they where too late to save the Soul King. Ichigo rushes forward to remove the blade however his arm is then covered in Blut and he slashes at the Soul King. Yhwach say's Ichigo's Quincy blood is what is attacking the Soul King and that the Soul Society will now be destroyed.

Did I pick a wrong time to get back to reviewing Bleach because once again this week's chapter was a major disappointment. Once again the story barely moved forward at all and the majority of it was again spent with Urahara as he explains how and why they have to get to the Soul Palace. I like that the rest of the Visords are here now but Hiyori's attitude was just annoying and just wasted a lot of time arguing with Shinji and refusing to change into a Soul Reaper uniform. Sui - Feng has went back to her old bitchy self by insulting Urahara which I never understood because Urahara has always been a better Soul Reaper and person than she has ever been. The only think of interest was that it looks like the Soul Society is now going to be destroyed and I want to see what happens next; will Yhwach create a new world? However I don't get why Ichigo attacked the Soul King because even though he does have Quincy blood (from his mother) didn't he already sort out his powers when training with Nimaiya?

Wonder if Ichigo will be forced to obey Yhwach?
Overall I know that Kubo has been ill but we have had three chapters now where basically nothing happens; no interesting fights and no advancement in the story.

SCORE: 2/10

Highlights: Destruction of the Soul Society?

Let - Downs: Everything

Bleach Review: The Shooting Star Project [We Only Have to Beat You Mix]

Lets crack on with another Bleach review.

The chapter begins right where it left off with the countdown with the cannon about to fire Ichigo and his group to the Royal Realm, however they are stopped by Ganju who insists on coming. After a brief argument where Ichigo warns Ganju about how dangerous it is they decide to let him on because he says he is ready and he has a map. After the blast off the group remembers how this is similar to when they rescued Rukia and Orihime sadly comments how Uryu was with them then, Ichigo says he will beat Ywach and bring Uryu back.

"Don't worry Sakura, I'll rescue Sasuke......wrong manga!"
It then changes back to the Royal Realm and Nianzol Weizol explains that is ability is to deflect all attacks and all the swords that are aimed at him will bend. At first Shutara believes that this ability can be counted by attacking Weizol from his blind spot but he quickly disproves this theory by bending the swords of his attackers, saying that if he has already seen the ability it doesn't matter if it is in his blind spot. He then uses his finger to bend one of the guard's sword even more and then slices three in half at the same time.

Bet this is really annoying for those guards
Shutara however says that the guards where not her true attack and that in a blink of an eye she managed to remake his entire trench coat with one of her hands. She then says that if he attempts to take it off he will not survive and sure enough Weizol is then impaled by a dozen spikes from his coat.

Really interesting chapter here; I thought it would go back to the fights back on the ground but we remain with Ichigo and the Zero Squad.

What I really like about this chapter was how the first part with Ichigo was like a nod to the Soul Society Recuse Arc, so it was really nostalgic to read it. It was really funny seeing Ganju and the group argue again even if it did waste quite a few pages when I wanted to see more fighting. It is still good to see Ganju again and he must have gotten way stronger or else he would not be so confident about going to the Royal Realm but where did he leave the Xcution members? It also once again raises the question on whether or not the Shibas have any connection to the Royal Realm because of how you must use the cannon to get up there and how Ganju has a map of the place.

I really don't think this is the end for him
We also got some great action in the Royal Realm; Weizol's ability is really interesting and I curious to who is going to fight him and get round it (I seriously doubt he is dead already). Weizol turned out to be a real sarcastic person when speaking, using his lisp as an excuse for not explain his abilities properly. Shutara also turns out to be a real badass and her stitching based abilities are really cool and it makes me all the more excited to see hers, and all the other Zero Squad members, Shikai and Bankai.

Overall this was a real solid chapter even though it felt kind of short and that is mainly because I felt the reunion between Ganju and the rest dragged out for too long.

OVERALL: 8/10
