Urahara shows off the power of his Bankai to a surprised Askin and gets help from an unlikely ally.

Sorry that I wasn't able to review last weeks but besides from being busy I haven't been feeling 100% lately (might be coming down with something) but I am here for this epic chapter! Finally we Bleach fans get to see one of the most anticipated Bankai and so far it hasn't disappointed. First off I really like the design of Kannon Biraki Benihime Aratame because I much prefer it when Kubo creates giant Bankai like Mayuri's and Komamura's because there is just so much more detail in them. I guessed ages ago his Bankai might be female looking because his Zanpakuto is one of the only few confirmed with a female spirit and it does look rather creepy looking with it's doll - like appearance. Secondly it also has a rather useful ability that can spilt open and stich back together anything Urahara wishes such has his damaged eye and his arm so he can deliver and powerful blow against Askin. Now I really don't think that this is it for his Bankai's abilities because since Zanpakuto are supposed to mirror the personalites of their owners I'm guessing Benihime also has a darker side like Urahara.

As for the fight it got really good with Urahara coming back strong thanks to his Banaki ability and actually has Askin on the ropes. I do like Askin saying that he doesn't really like close combat but he did carry a really interesting looking spear or trident in one of the panels. However the fight suddenly ends with the arrival of Grimmjow who mercilessly rips out Askin's heart and crushes it. I read that a lot of fans where disappointed that Grimmjoe hasn't done much since his return but I think this brutal move really makes up for it. Now I seriously doubt that Askin is dead because Kubo seems to really like him based on how much development he hasn't given the character so I'm 95% sure Askin will transform into something else. I also am saying this because the next chapter is 666 and there are a lot of fan speculation that Kubo is saving something really big or shocking for this.

DAMN! Now that's pretty brutal!

Overall a really entertaining chapter for a Bankai that did not disappoint.

Glad we are getting the cool ninja form from the anime!

Lille reveals the ultimate form of his Jilliel Vollstandig and dominates the fight so Shunsui decides to return Nanao's Zanpakuto to her.

Wow Kubo sure has a way of surprising the audience because I never expected Lille's new form to look like that! I was expecting some kind of change because his first Vollstandig form looked like a cocoon so I thought he was getting ready to become something else but he is a complete monster now. I have to say I really like this form because besides from being unexpected I don't think it was random based on two things. Frist Lille has constantly been saying he is the messenger of God and owls (his new face) have always been messengers throughout history and in Greek mythology owls have always been used as protectors for armies and trade, secondly his name is similar to the demon Lilith who has been associated with owls in certain texts. Now you could say these are a coincidence but Kubo has always portrayed the Quinces as these holy angels so I kind of like to think that it isn't. Now back to his form I do really like it because some of the shots Kubo draws it makes it look really creepy, like the close ups of it's face. It does also seem to be really powerful with the way it is destroying the surrounding area but I think it's weakness could be in it's eyes with the way Lille mentioned several times that his eyes are getting dry.

Now on to Shunsui and I will first get out of the way that while I did enjoy seeing his Bankai I am disappointed no other stage of it was shown because I wanted more after so much hype. However I have read some fan theories suggesting Shunsui will get another form or stage to his Bankai based on the ending which I hope is the case. I have to say that Shunsui has a really dark relationship with his Zanpakuto because of the way Katen Kyokotsu suggests that he should just give up and die which Shunsui actually seems to be contemplating, before Nanao shows up. We also get some more insight into their past with Nanao mentioning a promise Shunsui made to her mother (we defiantly need a Flashback soon!) but the big reveal is that Shunsui has been keeping Nanao's Zanpakuto, Kyokotsu, away from her. Now this is really weird because does this mean that Shunsui never had a had two swords because the other was Nanao's? and if it is Nanao's then are some of his Shikai moves not his like the child's games or the shadow moves? Like I just said we need a Flashback to clear this up but I see Nanao joining in this fight now with possibility a Bankai of her own if both the swords possess one, this again might make me think Shunsui could get another Banaki because what if his true one was being blocked by Nanao's Zanpakuto? Finally I am really, really glad they used the other Katen Kyokotsu spirit form the anime for Nanao's Zanpakuto because I have always really liked that one as well!

Overall got some big surprises in this chapter and setups for some exciting new twists for the rest of this fight.

Been ages since we have seen someone else Zanpakuto spirit

Lille tries to resist the power of Shunsui's Bankai however Shunsui then unleashes the Final Dan and gets a visit from his Zanpakuto spirit.

You know Bleach used to put a lot of emphasis on the Zanpakuto and the spirits they possess but after the Soul Society Arc they take a back seat, we even only have ever seen two in the manga and that is Ichigo's and Renji's. So I am glad that Kubo hasn't forgotten about them when we get the appearance of Shunsui's Zanpakuto spirit Sakuranosuke. I am so glad she turned up for that reason and I am also glad she looks the same from the anime filler arc because her design in that was really great already; I guess she is also the shadowy figure when Shunsui first released his Bankai. I liked the scenes and the banter between her and Shunsui since you can just tell that these two have been together for ages because Shunsui is the most experienced Captain now. Like how Shunsui keeps calling her "My Flower" and how he did act silly with her at the end, it was all nicely done. Sakuranosuke herself also drops hints to the background of Shunsui's kimono and I have read some fan theories thinking that it used to belong to a former lover of Shunsui so I hope we get a flashback soon. The Final Dan of Shunsui's Bankai was also very cool in they way a trail of light followed his fingers, the poem he recited to it then slashing Lille's throat. As for Lille himself I knew he wasn't going down for the count just yet which I am glad because I want this fight to last longer, plus the final page which showed his face reforming out of energy looked really menacing. I have enjoyed Shunsui's Bankai and it's ability to bring stories to life is cool but I am still feeling a bit underwhelmed by it. I am not going to mark this chapter down for it in case there are more stages to it next chapter because the fight is still going but if it doesn't then I will be disappointed.

Overall a really good chapter nothing really wrong with it but it doesn't feel perfect to me, I mean it was kind of short in all.

"Bet you weren't expecting this?"

Ichigo runs into Askin but as the two begin to fight they feel the chill of Shunsui's reiatsu as he activates his Bankai.

The chapter we have all been waiting for but before I get into that I want to first talk about the unexpected appearance of Askin and Ichigo. You know Askin continues to be one of my favourite characters just based on his personality alone; the funny reveal that he hasn't even fought Grimmjow and just ran away from him, even admitting that he is the type to run than fight even though he is supposed to be an Elite Sternritter lol. Now I don't think for a second that Grimmjow has been defeated and we won't see him again because he has been hyped up for so long and it would be a waste of his character who has been underused so far. Since Gerard is taking on multiple opponents at once I guess Askin can probably do the same against Ichigo and Grimmjow which would make for an awesome team up. We also get some shots of Chad, Ganju and Orihime but I don't really care at this point because they have just been completely useless this entire arc and I don't know who they can fight since there is not enough Sternritter to go round. However the fight between Askin and Ichigo was cut short went they both felt a very dark and chilling reiatsu coming from Shunsui's Bankai.



Askin continues to be such a great character

This was a great introduction to his Bankai and really mirrors his dark personally quite well; everything from the change of atmosphere to the moves themselves. It kind of remind me of Yamamoto's Banaki which moves was divided into North, West, South, East but Shunsui's is First Dan, Second and Third. The moves are pretty twisted such as the first one where each opponent suffer from the same wounds, the poisoning of Lille and then trapping them both in a cube of water until one of them dies. Plus I was right in thinking that these moves are like a play because off the story Shunsui is saying while Lille feels the effects. It was all very great however I feel like we went through them all really fast and it left me wanting more because the first thing I thought after the chapter despite really liking the Bankai was; "Is this it?". However I am not too worried because I am sure Lille is not down for the count just yet which will force Shunsui to use more moves, maybe something involving that shadow figure?

Overall a really decent Bankai reveal chapter and I liked how we got to see a bit of Askin and Ichigo just like we got to see a bit of Gerard and the other Soul Reapers last chapter.

The moment we have all been waiting for!

Gerard Valkyrie finds Shinji's group and prepares to take them on all at once meanwhile Shunsui, having trouble dealing with Lille's Vollstandig, activates his Bankai, Katen Kyokotsu: Kuromatsu Shinju.

Finally we have! The confirmation that Shunsui will be using his Bankai because he activates it at the end of the chapter. I knows lots of fans have been waiting for this since the nature of his Bankai was hinted at during the FK arc where Ukitake says "it shouldn't be used where others can see it". Shunsui eludes to this before activating it by hoping Nano is far enough away and to forgive him if not. This makes me thing that his Bankai is something so massive those caught in a specific area are in danger and based on the title of the chapter and the namesake of the Bankai (The Love Suicides at Sonezaki) my guess is that it takes the form of some sort of play. We don't see much of it other than the fact that shadows appear in the ground in the form of a tree and a shadowy figure appears next to Shunsui so shadows are probably involved in it. Other than that we also get to see Shunsui evaded Lille's attacks and preforming a Kido, Hado #74 Zangerin, that takes the form of a blade, which I really liked because Kido hasn't been used as often as it should in this arc. However I got to say that I am a bit disappointed that after Lille's Vollstandig was released last chapter we don't get more info on it; all Lille did was chase Shunsui around (and teleport) and we don't even know how Shunsui freed himself from the paralysis.

About time we see more Kido

Apart from the fight between those two I was surprised to see Gerard finding the rest of the Soul Reapers and challenging them to a fight. That was great because I want to see Gerard in action and to see what his Miracle power is because he does come across as someone who will be tough to beat. Well he has to be because he is insisting that all of the Soul Reapers fight him at once rather than one on one which I was so pleased to see because I don't want another one on one fight. You know I get the feeling that Lille's and Gerard's fights won't be as long as Pernida's because well Lille activated his Vollstandig after only a few chapters and Shunsui is now using Bankai. I think Kubo doesn't want to spend many months on these fight, it's a shame but I also think Askin's will be pretty long because he has been teased at being stronger than he looks for ages no.

Overall I am excited to see Shunsui's Bankai and how the Soul Reapers will fare against Gerard but I feel that we didn't see enough Lille and he has been neglected after just releasing his Vollstandig,

Bleach Review: BABY, HOLD YOUR HAND 2

Not a very pretty Bankai

Though Pernida has taken some serious damage it refuses to give up the fight so Mayuri reveals a new ability of his Bankai

Back with a Bleach review and before I start I want to say I did manage to read the two chapters on holiday and finding out that Pernida was the Left Arm of the Soul King was a big WTF moments. It has also been a really awesome fight so far with Mayuri (my favourite Captain) kicking some serious ass! On with this chapter it just continues the fight but with some surprising twists with the most obvious one being a new form to Mayuri's Bankai; Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo: Makai Fukuin Shotai. Having a modified Bankai that can adapt to the enemy does sound OP but it is so typical of Mayuri and the new Jizo bursting through the fat thing's stomach was really disgusting lol. As for Pernida that thing just refuses to go down and even have some disgusting shots as well such as pulling off it's own fingers to make new fingers and hands (I don't know how the anime is going to adapt this with it's censoring lol). We also get some more back story on the hands and a shot of a younger Mayuri studying up on the Soul King's arms which was interesting. All in all the chapters feels short but that is typical of ones that just involves fighting and I don't think this is it for Pernida which Nemu seems to agree with, with her stare at the end.

Bleach has made an Alien reference!

Overall another great addition to the Mayrui vs. Pernida fight and probably one of my favourites this arc. What I really like about this fight is how Mayuri is taking a more active role in the fighting like he did with Uryu.

Bleach Review: 566 - 570, Rukia Kuchiki vs. As Nodt

This was probably is uploaded later than I thought it would but here is my review of the recent fight between Rukia and As Nodt. It starts off with Rukia going around the Seireitei (or the Vandenriech now that it is taken over) and stopping when she feels something touch her arm and then turns around to see As Nodt floating towards her. We get some cool, creepy expressions of As Nodt as asks where his captured Senbonzakura and her brother has gone to and I found that kind of funny. It is not long before the actions begins and As Nodt fires his Reshi thorns at Rukia, he also takes off his cape and we see his outfit is still the same as last time but with the added addition of fingerless gloves. However even though As Nodt says his fear ability cannot be stopped with ice Rukia remains ineffective by saying that her body is below freezing so she is currently ‘dead’ and fear cannot affect her (it is also the true power of her Sode No Shirayuki), she then proceeds to completely freeze As Nodt in midair. As Nodt survives this however and breaks out while removing his mouth mask to reveal a decaying mouth and then afterwards enters in his Vollstandig by activating the Vandenreich symbol on the back of his eye. His Vollstandig is called Tatarforas and while in it he gains thorn like looking wings and a halo; his suit also peels away to show a decaying looking chest where is ribcage is. This form heightens his strength and speed but also grants him the ability to paralyse his target with fear simply by looking at his victim. He then creates an entire dome of eyes which traps and seems to have the upper hand before Byakuya Kuchiki. Surprisingly Byakuya does not participate in the fight except to free Rukia from As Nodt dome of eyes and to show off Senbonzakura again. As Nodt then proceed to transform in to a massively grotesque looking form but before he can do anything Rukia actives her Bankai; Hakka no Togame. This creates a massive blast of ice which once again freezes As Nodt but this time he crumbles away, thus ending the fight. I liked this fight a lot more than Renji vs. Mask De Masculine and the main reason for that is that this fight did not seem as one sided as that one was. I was completely annoyed with how over powered Renji was but with Rukia vs. As Nodt I thought the fight could have went either way right up until Rukia activated her bankai. Also I really liked that it was Rukia to kill As Nodt and not Byakuya and that is because I don’t think Rukia has had a decent fight since Aaroniero Arrurueire, plus I think a lot of people where expecting it to be Byakuya to finish off As Nodt. Speaking about As Nodt I think it was great to see another Sternritter have a little back story, the only others who have were the Lloyd brothers. It seems that As Nodt was a very religious person on the brink of death while in a hospital and feared going to hell more than anything. However Yhwach suddenly appears before him and asks if he would like power and be saved, which it is a safe assumption that he accepted. Since this hospital looked very modern I am guessing that As Nodt is a survivor of the Auswahlen that Yhwach used to revive himself. However this is only a guess at this point. Another thing that stood out a lot was the amazing art work that went in to this fight; As Nodt of course looks completely menacing as always, whether this is the shape of his eyes at the beginning or his numerous transformations. I particularly like the part when Rukia froze him in midair and they are flying past one another, it was just really cool. Also I would like to point out that I think Rukia’s bankai looked awesome, her dress looked very regal and detailed. I have heard a lot of people saying that if Rukia had a bankai it would have been a scythe but this was a pleasant surprise in my opinion. If there is anything I did not like about this fight was that I don’t think it was as long as it could have been. I always thought Kubo put a lot of effect in to creating As Nodt and I thought he would have been one of the last Sternritter to be defeated. I am not saying that this was a disappointing fight, it is one of the best of the arc in my opinion, and I just think a few more chapters could have been dedicated to it. Overall this was one great fight were we got to see Rukia with some new powers and Byakuya is ready to fight now. As Nodt may have been one of my favourite Sternritters however at least now some of the focus can shift to those Sternritter we have not seen yet. SCORE: 9/10 Predictions At the end of this fight we get to see Isane and Yachiru stalked by Sternritter V – Vanishing Point, Guenael, and I am really interested in seeing how this goes. These are two characters that we have not seen fight yet and this may be a good opportunity for them to show off. However, whether or not it is in this fight or another, I do hope that the Soul Society takes on more casualties soon. The Sternritter are really pushing them but I really think they need to suffer some more losses to make this invasion and last arc more brutal.

Bleach Review: 565 God Like You

Long time since I have done a review of Bleach but here it is again, I know I said I would group my reviews of Bleach chapters together but this chapter is so damn important that I just had to review this single one. Now as ever I will begin with a quick overview.

This chapter starts off not with a look at the end of the fight between Renji and Mask De Masculine (I will probably do a review of that whole fight soon now that it seems to be completely over) but with a flashback of the birth of a very strange baby. This baby was born in a vegetative state; he could not move, speak hear or pretty much do anything but what he could do was cure the aliments of anyone who touched him be it physical, mental or psychological conditions. The reason for this is that the baby imparts some of its soul in to that individual which gave that person the power to over come his or her condition however once that person dies the part of the baby’s soul would return to him and he would gain the powers and experiences that soul gained while it was outside of the baby. Because of this the baby began to be able to move, see, talk and hear and the first word he heard was the chant to a God that he would take as his name and that name was Yhwach who in his teenage years grew up to look like Tensa Zangetsu! That is right, Tensa Zangetsu has been confirmed to be the younger version of Yhwach which many already had thought (myself included) but it is good to have it confirmed. 

Back in the present day Yhwach is still upon his throne and talks to the soul of Mask De Masculine and tells him to return to him, this confirms that Mask De Masculine and James are in fact dead. Just outside his door Uryu is about to enter before being stopped by Haschwalth, in the ensuring conversation between the two you can just tell these guys hate each other but since Uryu is named as Yhwach successor he seems to tolerate him and even describes more of Yhwachs powers to him. It seems that not only have all of the Sternritter have a part of Yhwach soul placed within them they have also had a letter engraved on their soul that represents their power, this seems to be a more powerful version of the soul imprinting that Yhwach used when he was only a baby. Haschwalth also goes on to say that the Soul Reapers have a part of Yhwach soul within them as well so that no matter which side gets the most losses Yhwach will continue to grow stronger. The chapter ends with the dawn of the second day of fighting as Yhwach wakes up and looks over the battlefield.

This was one hell of a unique chapter, a bit disappointed that we see no other fights or Sternritter but we get an awesome back story on Yhwach and some new revelations. The obvious one of being that Tensa Zangetsu was Yhwach younger version but one of the most important ones was that his power as a baby must have Auswahlen, which is the power to absorb the souls of Quincies which was how he could revive himself in the present day in the first place. 

Second was that Yhwach must always be absorbing the souls of those killed in battle to not only get stronger but to keep himself from going back in to a vegetative state, I am sure this was the seal Yamamoto mentioned when he defeated Yhwach a thousand years ago. Now does this mean that a thousand years ago Yamamoto managed to stop all the fighting and is that what the heroes are going to have to do now? 

Also since not only the Quincy but only the Soul Reapers have a part of Yhwach soul within him, he is just going to get more powerful the longer and bloodier this war becomes.

Lastly it is revealed by Haschwalth that Uryu did indeed join the Vandenreich to avenge his mother who was a victim of Auswahlen but since he drank the blood of Yhwach he is now bond to him like all the other Sternritter. Will Uryu then side with the Vandenreich or will he still try to avenge his mother? I am going to side with the first option because I really don’t see Uryu has a bad guy but the hatred between him and Haschwalth during their conversation kind of foreshadows a possible battle between them.

Now about Yhwach it seems that Kubo has made him out to be some kind of Jesus a little bit; he cured anyone who touched him, he is worshipped by all of his followers and Uryu drank his blood, like people drink wine at church. The Quincy has always had a holy theme going one with them and Yhwach only reinforces this. Not only that but besides from seeming to be unstoppable a this point he is woven in so well in to the Bleach lore in spite of being introduced in the final arc. Kubo I have to say that you have done a great job with this character!

In conclusion this was a great chapter and a nice break from the constant fighting we have had so far. Some might say it was a little slow and they might be right but since it revealed a lot about Yhwach that more than makes up for it.

Bleach Review: 560 – 564, Mask De Masculine vs. Kensei and Renji

Now it is time for another review that I promised to do in my earlier review and that is the recent Mask De Masculine fight that was shown. The reason I am reviewing it is because besides from being a really great fight, I want to review the all fights that are coming up in Bleach but only after they have finished.

It starts off with Mask De Masculine defeating Ikkaku Madarame, Yumichika Ayasegawa and Shuhei Hisagi (along side his cheering fan James), however before he can land the finishing blow he is stopped by the Soul Reaper captains Kensei Mugruma and Rojuro ‘Rose’ Otoribashi. Kensei steps up to fight first and activities his Bankai, Tekken Tachikaze, which controls the power of wind and focuses all of the power of his Shikai in to his knuckle blades. This explosive power makes his assault seem endless and he uses it to get the upper hand on Mask, however it his then revealed that Mask’s S stands for The Superstar and the cheering from his fan James grants Mask even greater power and strength. Kensei fights back but the constant cheering from James powers up Mask too much and he is defeated.

Next Rose steps up to fight and starts by cutting James in half before activating his own Bankai, Kinshara Butodan, a music type Bankai. Acting as a conductor to direct several giants that have numerous techniques such as Sea Drift (Water) and Prometheus (Fire) and seems to overwhelm Mask. However before he can activate another technique called Ein Heldenleben, Mask figures out the weakness in Rose’s Bankai by destroying his own eardrums and thereby blocking out the music, he then blasts a star shaped hole through Rose’s chest, critically injuring him.

But all is not lost because Mask is interrupted once again by the arrival of Renji, who has just come back from his training in the Royal Realm. Mask starts off by having his eardrums healed by James, who still turns out to be alive, before charging at Renji. However Renji’s training has made him more powerful than he thought, so even after Mask changes form, enters Vollstandig and unleashes a wide array of star based moves; Renji survives them and enters Bankai. His Bankai has changed to it’s ‘true form’ has a result of his training; the head of the snake engulfs his sword arm and looks like a shield while he can control massive bone arm of the baboon, this new Bankai his called Soo Zabimaru. After overpowering Mask, Renji actives a move called Orochio, cutting Mask in half and burning him to ashes. 

Now this was one exciting fight and I thought it was very well done and there was few stand out moments for me. First was that Mask was shown to be a really powerful Sternritter, when he first appeared many thought he was just a simple minded Yammy copy but no this guy took out five Soul Reapers and was hard to kill. Mask really did grow on me during this fight and I really thought he was going to survive it so that was a shame.

Next was that Kensei and Rose got in on the spotlight and kicked some ass, sure they where defeated but they went down swinging. I think Kensei being in this repaired a lot of the damage Kubo did when he completely skipped his fight with Wonderwiess and he was missing for the rest of the Fake Karakura Arc; that was one of the biggest disappointments in Bleach. Then there was Rose, who is one of my favourite characters and we finally got to see his Bankai and it was soooo creative, one of the best Kubo has done, I really hope we see more of it.

Lastly was the reveal of Renji’s new Bankai and it is way better than his last one that was just a massive bone whip. This was looks cooler and gives Renji a ton of new abilities while the last one was just really straight forward and predictable.

However I felt that this chapter was not without and few flaws, he first being Kensei and Rose getting defeated. I know I said they still kicked ass but they are two of my favourites and since it’s been ages since we saw them last fight I thought they deserved a few victories, especially Rose who just revealed his Bankai. I really like the Vizards in Bleach but I think Kubo is just wasting them; first there was Shinji in the Komamura fight and now these two, all three seem to go down too quick for my liking and they did not even use their Hollow powers.

Next is another contradiction of the highlights I picked but I just have to say it; Renji. I admit his Bankai is awesome but it and he are now so overpowered. The Vandenreich are supposed to be the Soul Reaper’s ultimate enemy, Mask took out five Soul Reapers and he did not even break a sweat but Renji stepped in and dealt with him straight away, I just did not like that.

Lastly speaking about Mask, I did say he was growing on me but the latter half of the fight did not help. When he fought Kensei and Rose he kept calling them villains which made me think that Mask truly believed he was the good guy saving the world from the Soul Reapers, it added a bit of depth to his character. However when Renji his personality seemed to change, he flies in to a rage and even says that he is just going to kill Renji just for the sake of it. It made him out just to be mindless and cruel when I really thought he was a good person who truly viewed Soul Reapers as evil.

In conclusion this was a really great fight, one of my favourite of the Thousand War Arc so far, we got some cool Bankai action, a Sternritter with some cool abilities and Kensei and Rose got in on the fight too. But it was let down by Renji’s massive amount of over powering, the fact that Kensei and Rose are probably not going to be fighting again soon and Mask just turning in to some kind of berserker near the end.

Bleach Review: 556 – 558, Komamura vs. Bambietta

Been a while so I thought I would do another Bleach review, however I also thought instead of reviewing the chapters individually I would group them together. For example this reviews the chapters about the fight between Bambietta Basterbine and Sajin Komamura, so let’s get to it.

What happens in these chapters is that Komamura protects both Shinji and Momo from Bambietta’s attacks, who is in her Vollstandig form, with his new armour. Bambietta reveals that her letter stands for ‘The Explode’ (really obvious) but her ability is not just firing bombs; she fires out reshi that turns whatever it goes in to, in to a bomb that shortly explodes (this kind of reminds me of Gambit’s mutant power from the X – Men). Komamura however tanks all of it which destroys all of his armour and underneath reveals that he is now human! Komamura explains that he has undergone his clan’s Human Transformation Technique and then unleashes his Bankai; Kokjuo Tengen Myo’o – Dangai Joe, which has the giant shed it’s armour to reveal a skeletal body underneath.

With this new found power Komamura explains that he gut out his own heart to achieve it and that he and his Bankai are now immortal. He tanks every attack that Bambietta throws at him and then slices at her with Dangai Joe’s sword which backfires several of her reshi bombs causing them to explode. Shortly after this Komamura starts to change back in to a full wolf and collapses to the ground only to be picked up by Iba. As Bambietta lies on the ground, wondering how she could be the first to be defeated, her friends show up saying they want to help her which Bambietta begs them not to do. We get a last shot of Rukia and Renjo falling down from the royal palace and heading for the Soul Society.

First off I will just say that I loved this fight, Komamura has always been one of my favourite characters that I feel has never had a moment to shine in battle. This I feel mostly has to do with Kubo pitting him against opponents he can not win, a hollowfied Tosen and Aizen for example, but always thought he is a great character with an awesome Bankai. This was his moment in these chapters, Kubo finally gave him some new abilities and they were great; his human form really suits him and Dangai Joe looks so menacing. It surprised me that it is Bambietta who is one of the first to be defeated because I thought she would be one of the main Sternritters but it was a good surprise. I am also glad that we finally get more back story on Komamura, his clan and why they are wolves (Won’t spoiler that for you) because he has been long over due for one. Finally I really like how Kubo contrasts Komamura’s need for revenge with Tosen’s because even after all of this time since Tosen’s death the two are still connected with each other.

The art work throughout these chapters were top notch, the highlights being Dangai Joe, who I think Kubo put a lot of effort in to designing. I was glad whenever there was a panel of it and there is this one scene where it jumps towards Bambietta which was so cool. Another part I would like to point out is the cool designs of Rukia and Renji’s new costumes, just like Ichigo they have an Arabic theme going.

I only have two small complaints about this fight and that is I wished there could have been a bit more fighting between Komamura and Bambietta because Komamura used a lot of the pages explains his powers and having flashbacks with his grandfather. Another is that even thought I really like Renji and Rukia I do not like seeing them now, I want the fight with the Sternritter to focus on none of the main characters right now, for example I want to see the fights with Rose, Kensei and Shunsui. Ichigo, Rukia and Renji are going to be way more powerful now so I do not want them to enter the fights and take all the spot light and save everyone; I want the Sternritter to be annihilating the Soul Reapers.

In conclusion Komamura finally got the spotlight that he finally deserves and his fate at the end was confusing because I thought he was going to die. Solid fight that could have done with more action but Dangai Joe more than made up for it.

Bleach Review: 554, Desperate Light

Now it is time for another review but this time I thought I would review the latest chapter of one of my favourite mangas; Bleach.

I will go over a quick summary of the events of this chapter and give you my thoughts of it; this will be full of spoilers for those who have not read it yet. It starts off with Bazz – B observing Chang Du being frozen solid by Toshiro Hitsugaya’s ice flower attack, annoyed with the fact that Chang Du took over the fight just to lose he walks away. It then cuts over to Toshiro who loses the hollow powers in his bankai before collapsing to the ground. After this we have a great shot of the four Sternritters who stole bankais during the previous invasion; Chang Du trapped in ice, BG9 with his helmet broken at the front and As Nodt and Bambietta Basterbine looking up at the sky while the bankais are taken away.

It then goes to Bambietta who does not care about losing the bankai and kills several Soul Reapers by some explosion technique. She says all this whilst thinking that he friends are behind her but then notices they are not before creating another large explosion. Shortly after this Sajin Komamura arrives, now sporting some cool looking armour but before they fight Shinji Hirako appears behind her and activates his Zanpakuto, Sakanade to invert Bambietta’s senses.

However while it seems to Soul Reapers are getting the upper hand, Yhwach comments from a top his throne that he is delighted by the fact that the Sternritter have lost their Bankais. They reason for this is explained by Bambietta that the bankai was getting in the way of their Vollstandig before promptly activating it. Seven Sternritter seem to activate their Vollstandig from the look of the fire pillars that are shown in the next shot. It ends with Mayuri Kurotsuchi commenting that this is bad for them while Kisuke Urahara gets a call from Ichigo Kurosaki.

I will start off by saying that this is a definite improvement over the last chapter which was basically a copy of the battles of Baraggan and Harribel in the fake Karakura town arc. Chang Du gets frozen in an ice pillar and BG9 gets blasted by Jakuho Raikoben, it was annoying that it was just the same. Still this chapter was really good because of Bambietta because I really like her character and it looks like we have a clue to her powers. The explosions she did make me think that her letter E stands for ‘The Explosion’ but I guess we will have to wait and see. Another high point was the teaming up Komamura and Shinji, sure they did not actually fight together but it is a start. Also I am glad we finally get to see the Vollstandig again but with other Sternritter. Of course the artwork was great; I think Kubo does his best work with the Sternritter.

However there are three points that do annoy me in this chapter and that was Bazz – B walking away when Toshiro had fallen. Toshiro is one of my least favourite Soul Reapers and I do not want him to live through these fights and Kubo keeps making up ways for him to live, Bazz – B had the perfect opportunity and he did not take it?

Another thing that bothered me is even with the use of the Vollstandig at the end there are still no real conclusions to the Chang Du and BG9 fights yet. Don’t get me wrong I have really enjoyed those fights but I want to see other Sternritter now.

One last thing is that if Yhwach is so glad that the bankais are all returned to the Soul Reapers then what was the point of stealing them in the first place? However I will forgive this one for now because the fact that it was blocking the Vollstandig was a really good reason (I guess Soul Reaper and Quincy powers just don’t mix) and because we finally get to see some more Vollstandig now.

In conclusion this was a solid chapter with a lot of potential for the next one; I just hope that the Soul Reapers do not come up with really quick ways to counter the Vollstandig like they did with the bankai stealing.
